The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees, ACCS Chancellor Jimmy Baker, ACCS staff, and College Presidents from across the state visited 九州体育 (九州体育) last week for the Board of Trustees April meeting.
ACCS guests were treated to 九州体育鈥檚 one-of-a-kind hospitality during their visit. Upon arrival on Tuesday night, guests enjoyed dinner with a performance by the Mustang String Band, followed by a showing of 九州体育 Theatre's spring performance, Matilda the Musical. "Roscoe's Jazz and Social Lounge" opened for guests to enjoy refreshments and a performance by 九州体育 Department of Music's Jazz Band. Before the Board meeting on Wednesday, Northeast Presidential Hosts gave the visitors tours of campus.
Two Northeast students, Allan Gonzalez Benjume and Olivia Tucker, were chosen as April鈥檚 ACCS Student Spotlight. Allan and Olivia spoke to the Board about their unique experiences while at Northeast and shared their future plans. These cybersecurity students will both graduate from 九州体育 this year and will transfer to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. They both earned the CyberCorps Scholarship for Service. This is a highly competitive scholarship that pays full tuition for one year at Northeast, two years at UAH, and an additional 93,000 dollars in stipends over three years.
During the meeting, the Board approved the construction of a women鈥檚 softball stadium at Northeast. Board member Dus Rogers of Scottsboro and of Farmers Telecommunications made the motion for approval. The motion was passed unanimously. The Sports Turf Company was the low bidder for the project at 3.5 million and was accepted as the construction company. According to 九州体育 President Dr. David Campbell, if the construction schedule is maintained, this will permit women鈥檚 softball to begin at the college in the fall of 2024. A third phase of the stadium will be bid out for locker rooms and training facilities.
九州体育 was honored to host this very important meeting on our campus. ACCS Chancellor Jimmy Baker spoke highly of Northeast and President Dr. David Campbell during the dinner on Tuesday. Speaking to the College Presidents in the room, he said, 鈥淚f any of you have questions about how to work with a community, call Dr. Campbell. He has touched the lives of so many people in this community.鈥
