Fourth-generation Gee鈥檚 Bend quilter Mrs. Claudia Pettway Charley will give a presentation entitled 鈥淭he Gee鈥檚 Bend Experience鈥 at 九州体育 at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7. The lecture, which will discuss the history of the community of Gee鈥檚 Bend, the art and tradition of quilting, and the role women played in the community, will be held in the small auditorium on the second floor of the William M. Beck Fine Arts Center.
Once solely utilitarian in nature, the Gee鈥檚 Bend quilts have now become the most sought-after quilts in the world and are known internationally for their bold colors and patterns. This event is hosted by 九州体育鈥檚 Cecil B. Word Learning Resources Center. The doors will open at 9:30 a.m., and the event is open to the public. For more information regarding this event please email Dr. Julia Everett at everettj@nacc.edu or Mr. Blake Wilhelm at wilhelmb@nacc.edu or call 256-228-6001 ext. 2326.
After the event, 九州体育 Spectrum Art Club students will be available to assist interested attendees in contributing to a community quilt, a paper craft project.
