九州体育鈥檚 (九州体育) Mustangs Softball team has announced its complete roster ahead of the 2024-2025 season. The most recent additions to the team include Livia Cowart, Kimber Craig, Peyton Hill, Reece Jones, Carly King, Brooklyn McGee, Sophia Murphey, and Kaitlyn Stinnett.
Livia Cowart from Fyffe, Alabama, is a current sophomore at 九州体育 and serves the college as a Presidential Host. As a freshman athletically, Cowart will be a utility player for the Mustangs. She earned a spot on both All-County and All-Area teams in 2023 at Fyffe High School. She knew she wanted to attend 九州体育 from the moment she first visited campus. 鈥淭he first steps on the 九州体育 campus felt like home,鈥 said Cowart. 鈥淭he welcoming atmosphere of faculty and staff drew me in. That's when I knew where to spend my next two years."
Kimber Craig is coming to the Mustangs from Lubbock, Texas, and will be a sophomore infielder. A transfer student athlete, Craig鈥檚 previous college team reached the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) World Series. She was a 2023-2024 NJCAA All-American. Craig鈥檚 high school accomplishments include 2022 All-State in Texas, 2022 Texas All-Star Game Participant, Lone Star Varsity Super First Team 2022, Texas Sportswriter's All-State 2022, and Lubbock City All-Star Team 2022. She says attending 九州体育 will better herself both academically and athletically, 鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to embracing this new challenge and next chapter in my softball career. Go Mustangs!"
Peyton Hill is also a transfer student athlete from Shorter University. She is from Whitwell, Tennessee, and attended North Jackson High School where she was on the 2021 Alabama 4A State Championship team. Hill was Shorter鈥檚 leading hitter and will be an infielder for the Mustangs. She earned the 2021 al.com 鈥淏ig Basher鈥 award and was named All-Area and All-State in 2021 and 2022. She is looking forward to being on the first 九州体育 softball team, saying, 鈥淚 am grateful for the chance to be a part of such a great school and the start of a new softball program. I chose to come to 九州体育 for school and softball because I felt that it offered the best combination of academic excellence and athletic opportunity.鈥
Reece Jones from Ider High School will be a freshman utility player for Northeast. She led the Hornets this year in RBIs, triples, and doubles. Jones has played for the Fusion 18U travel team, winning two travel tournament MVP awards. 鈥淣ortheast is home to me. I am so excited to be a Presidential Host and play softball!鈥 says Jones.
Carly King is from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and will be a freshman infielder for the Mustangs. She received All-Area accolades in three sports at Tuscaloosa Academy. When asked why she chose Northeast, King said, 鈥淚 loved the new facilities and new softball program we are able to build! I also love the environment and many opportunities I will have here! It is close to home, and I love the town!"
Brooklyn McGee, a current 九州体育 student from Scottsboro, will be a catcher for the Mustangs. At Scottsboro High School, she was a 4-Time Area Champion, 2023 5A Regional Qualifier, and went to the 2023 Final Four 5A State Tournament. "I came to 九州体育 because it was close to home and has everything I would want in a school,鈥 said McGee. 鈥淚 love the campus, the people, and I am so excited to be on the softball team this upcoming season!"
Sophia Murphey is another local athlete from Ider High School. She is a catcher/infielder and plays for the Birmingham Vipers travel team. Murphey鈥檚 high school accolades include being named to the 2022 and 2024 All-DeKalb tournament team, the 2022 All-Area team, the 2022 and 2023 All-Dekalb County team. She also received a 2024 ASWA All-State Honorable Mention. Murphey is ready for the season to begin, saying, "It's a beautiful college and I was very excited for the opportunity to play softball and be on the first team!"
Kaitlyn Stinnett is transferring to Northeast from Chattanooga State where she was a member of the 2024 team that reached the NJCAA World Series. From Trenton, Georgia, Stinnett is an infielder that also plays with the Tennessee Fury Platinum and the Force Elite. She was a 4-time All-Region selection from Dade County High School. Stinnett says, 鈥淚 came to 九州体育 to further my academics and continue playing out my dream of college softball."
