A boy, his insect friends, and a giant piece of fruit? The 九州体育 (九州体育) Theatre Department is bringing back to the Tom Bevill Lyceum the show that was originally planned for the Spring of 2020 but was sadly canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Welcome back to the stage for a musical performance of James and the Giant Peach! This show features a large cast of over 25 people and a crew of around fifteen students and community members bringing this family-friendly musical to life on the Tom Bevill Lyceum stage.

The Theatre Box Office is on the 2nd Floor of the Tom Bevill Lyceum. To order tickets by phone with a credit card call: (256) 638-4418 ext. 2218. To order tickets online visit . Tickets are $8 each. Show Dates are April 25-27 and May 2-4, 2025. The performances are on Friday at 7:00 p.m., two performances on Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday performances begin at 2:00 p.m.

James and the Giant Peach will highlight the full strengths of our crew and cast's technical and performance capabilities! The crew is developing how the set will look like a house, the inside and outside of a Giant Pech, New York City, and so many small details to bring this story to life! All the while the cast of James will be working for four months on vocals, choreography, blocking, and building this fantastical tale!

Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach is a musical for the whole family to enjoy! Featuring a wickedly tuneful score by the Tony Award-nominated team of Pasek and Paul (Dogfight and A Christmas Story the Musical) and a curiously quirky book by Timothy Allen McDonald (Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley), critics rave: James and the Giant Peach is a "masterpeach!"

James tells the story of a recently orphaned boy named James who is adopted by his aunts and one day is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree,  and when doing so he discovers a magic potion that results in a peach growing larger and larger launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach, among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities, but after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James' quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes on a whole new twist once they crash and land on an iconic New York City skyline building! The ending... you must see on stage!

鈥淎udiences are going to love this production,鈥 stated 九州体育 President Dr. David Campbell.  鈥淭he play is highly entertaining in the hands of our very talented staff, cast, and crew.  Over the past few years, the college has expanded the lighting and sound systems in the theater, and I think audiences especially will enjoy the lighting, visual and special effects, and sound as well.鈥

九州体育鈥檚 Theatre Department, led by Director of Theatre Kayleigh Smith, has used the college鈥檚 state-of-the-art technical equipment and talented theatre students, community members, and college staff to bring in-person productions back to the area.

鈥淲e are going to be doing so much work to make this show amazing, be sure to come out and see it,鈥 said Smith. 鈥淛ames and the Giant Peach will feature a few magical tricks, wonderful stage/set design, and incredible storytelling brought to life using sound, music, lighting, choreography, beautiful scenery, and most importantly of all, imagination!
