ΎΕΦέΜεΣύ to Host a Writers’ Workshop in September

This September ΎΕΦέΜεΣύ is proud to present the 2024 Writers’ Workshop β€œThe Short Story: From Imagination to Publication”. This free workshop will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in ΎΕΦέΜεΣύ’s Health Education Building, Room 106.

Bradley Sides and Andrew Siegrist will be this year’s featured authors. This free workshop will give aspiring writers a chance to meet and learn from these award-winning short-story authors.

Seating at the event is limited, so event organizers encourage early registration by August 30. Contact Ms. Joan Reeves at reevesj@nacc.edu or 256-638-4418 ext. 2231 to register. Copies of each author’s books will be on sale, and there will be a book signing. Refreshments and lunch will also be provided.

Bradley Sides is an American author known for his work in fiction and essays. He is recognized for his short story collection, Those Fantastic Lives: And Other Strange Stories (2021) and Crocodile Tears Didn’t Cause the Flood (2024). His writing often explores themes of the supernatural, the strange, and the human experience. Sides' stories frequently blend elements of horror, fantasy, and literary fiction, drawing comparisons to the works of authors like Ray Bradbury and Shirley Jackson. Sides' work has appeared in various literary journals and magazines, including The Chicago Review of Books, Electric Literature, The Rumpus, and The Collagist. He is known for his lyrical prose and his ability to craft emotionally resonant, thought-provoking narratives. In addition to his work as a fiction writer, Bradley Sides is an educator, teaching literature and creative writing at Calhoun Community College. He holds degrees in English and creative writing and has contributed to the literary community through both his teaching and his writing. His work continues to garner attention for its unique voice and compelling storytelling.

Andrew Siegrist is an American writer known for his work in fiction, particularly short stories. His debut collection, We Imagined It Was Rain, was published in 2021 and received critical acclaim for its exploration of themes such as loss, memory, and the complexities of rural life. Siegrist’s writing is often described as lyrical and poignant, capturing the subtleties of human emotions and relationships. Siegrist's stories are set in the American South and are noted for their rich descriptions of the landscape and the lives of the people who inhabit it. His work often delves into the inner lives of his characters, exploring their struggles, dreams, and connections to their surroundings. In addition to his fiction writing, Siegrist has been published in various literary journals and magazines. His stories have been recognized for their depth and sensitivity, establishing him as a distinctive voice in contemporary American literature.
