九州体育鈥檚 English Department and Sigma Kappa Delta are sponsoring a Writers鈥� Workshop, featuring award-winning authors David Arnold and Jeff Zentner.   The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, on the 九州体育 campus in the Health Education Building, Room 106. Arnold and Zentner will focus on 鈥淲riting by Ear,鈥� a workshop about the soul of writing鈥攖he author鈥檚 voice.  They will examine the ways in which voice shapes dialogue and poetry. Both former musicians, now published authors, mostly write the way they once played instruments鈥攂y ear. Do not miss out on this unique opportunity.           

David Arnold is the New York Times bestselling author of Mosquitoland, I Loved You in Another Life, The Electric Kingdom, Kids of Appetite, and The Strange Fascinations of Noah Hypnotik. He has won the Southern Book Prize and the Great Lakes Book Award and was named a Publishers Weekly Flying Start for his debut. His books have been translated into over a dozen languages. He lives in Lexington, Kentucky, with his wife and son. Previous job experience: freelance musician, preschool teacher, barista, and stay-at-home dad. Favorite places: bookstores, record stores, Middle-earth, remote cabins in winter landscapes, Stars Hollow, and his house.

Jeff Zentner is the author of New York Times Notable Books The Serpent King and In the Wild Light, as well as Goodbye Days, Rayne & Delilah鈥檚 Midnite Matinee, and his forthcoming debut for the adult market, Colton Gentry鈥檚 Third Act. Among other honors, he has won the ALA鈥檚 William C. Morris Award, the Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award twice, the Muriel Becker Award, the International Literacy Association Award, and been longlisted twice for the Carnegie Medal. He鈥檚 a two-time Southern Book Prize finalist and was a finalist for the Indies Choice Award. He was selected as a Publishers Weekly Flying Start and an Indies Introduce pick. His books have been translated into fifteen languages. Before becoming a writer, he was a musician who recorded with Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, and Debbie Harry. He lives in Nashville and became interested in writing for young adults after volunteering at the Tennessee Teen Rock Camp and Southern Girls Rock Camp. As a kid, his parents would take him to the library and drop him off, where he would read until closing time. He worked at various bookstores through high school and college and speaks fluent Portuguese, having lived in the Amazon region of Brazil for two years.
